Game Recap: Philadelphia Flyers vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Corey Crawford for the Chicago Blackhawks (16-8-2) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (19-6-3) for the FLYERS.

1ST PERIOD

–  Scoreless first period with the ‘Hawks outshooting the Flyers 11-9.

2ND PERIOD

–  Jeff Carter (21) opens the scoring after a scramble in front of the Chicago net.  Claude Giroux and Nikolay Zherdev with the assists.

3RD PERIOD

–  Nikolay Zherdev (15) completes a wrap-around with stunning speed and buries the puck past Crawford to make it 2-0 Flyers. Giroux with the assist.

–  Jeff Carter (22) scores his second of the game to make the score 3-0, redirecting a pass to the front of the net.  Giroux with the helper.

–  Marian Hossa snaps Bobrovsky’s shutout with a penalty shot goal to make it 3-1 Flyers.

–  After pulling Crawford for the extra attacker, the Flyers bury an empty netter from Scott Hartnell (17) to make the score 4-1.  Jeff Carter with the assist, as well as Claude Giroux.

Flyers 4, Blackhawks 1

Shots were 34-31 Flyers.

Powerplays were 0 for 2 with both teams.

Game Recap: Philadelphia Flyers vs. New Jersey Devils

Johan Hedberg (5-10-1) for the New Jersey Devils vs. Brian Boucher (11-5-2) for the FLYERS

1ST PERIOD

–  Henrik Tallinder scores through a screen just over five minutes into the game to put the suddenly red-hot Devils in front 1-0.

–  Patrik Elias nets his 11th of the season through Brian Boucher’s five-hole.  Mike Fayne and Brian Rolston picked up the assists.

 

2ND PERIOD

–  James van Riemsdyk (12) redirects a Claude Giroux centering pass to pull the Flyers within one with less than a minute left in the period.  Mike Richards with the other assist.

 

3RD PERIOD

–  After the Flyers desperately pulled Brian Boucher in favor of the extra attacker, Patrik Elias slipped past the Flyers defense and deposited the puck into the empty net, giving the Devils an insurmountable 3-1 lead with less than a minute left.

 

Devils 3, Flyers 1

Flyers were 0 for 3 on the PP, Devils were 1 for 4.

Shots were 27-22 in favor of the Flyers.

Game Recap: Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators

Brian Elliott (12-16-6) for the Ottawa Senators vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (18-6-3) for the FLYERS.

1ST PERIOD

–  Danny Briere (25) continues his torrid play of late, taking an Andrej Meszaros pass and ripping a slapper from the top of the right circle and over Elliott’s shoulder for the 1-0 lead.  Sean O’Donnell with the secondary assist.
–  Just a little over two minutes later, Mike Richards (16) redirects a Braydon Coburn shot past Elliott to make the score 2-0 in favor of the home team.  Andreas Nodl picked up the secondary assist.

2ND PERIOD

–  Late in the second period on the Power Play, Richards (17) nets his second of the game after toying with Elliott to put the Flyers comfortably in front 3-0.  Chris Pronger got an assist – his first point since returning in this game from a broken foot suffered in mid-December, as did Kimmo Timonen.

–  Ottawa finally gets on the board after peppering the Flyers for most of the second period, when Milan Michalek steals an errant Timonen pass and breaks in alone, beating Bobrovsky glove side.  Jarrko Ruutu picks up the assist.  3-1 Flyers.

–  With less than a minute left in the frame, Nick Foligno capitalizes on a breakdown in front of the Flyers goal, and slips past a backhander in the crease to make it 3-2 Flyers.  Mike Fisher and Daniel Alfredsson registered the assists.


3RD PERIOD

–  The Hartnell-Leino-Briere line struck again, as Hartnell (16) slammed home a rebound in front of Elliott and the Flyers opened back up a 2-goal lead. Leino and Briere with the assists.  The assist for Briere was his 100th as a Flyer.

–  The Flyers continued to distance their lead when a rebound off a Mike Richards shot tricked right to James van Riemsdyk (11), who deposited the puck into the vacant area of the net.  Richards and Pronger with the helpers.

–  The scoring was capped off on another rebound goal, this one by Andrej Meszaros (3), as he ripped a slap shot while falling down from the top of the left circle to give the Flyers an insurmountable 6-2 lead.  Claude Giroux and Richards picked up assists.

Flyers 6, Ottawa 2

Shots were 27-23 in favor of Ottawa.

The Flyers went 2 for 4 on the PP, Sens were 0 for 3.

Martin Biron (7-3-0) for the New York Rangers vs. Brian Boucher (10-5-2) for the FLYERS

1ST PERIOD

Jeff Carter opens the scoring, redirecting a Matt Carle shot in front for his 19th of the season and a 1-0 Flyers lead.  Ville Leino picked up the secondary assist.

–  Ville Leino scores his 11th of the season from the slot to make it 2-0.  Carle and Andrej Meszaros with the helpers.

2ND PERIOD

–  Mike Richards scores his 15th of the season, this one of the shorthanded variety, capping off a 2 on 1 rush with Claude Giroux.  3-0 Philadelphia.

3RD PERIOD

–  The Rangers begin to claw back as newly-acquired Wojtek Wolski scores his 2nd as a Blueshirt, and makes the score 3-1 Flyers.  Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan with the assists.

–  Things get even dicier when Stepan converts a one-timer from the slot to bring the score to 3-2.  Zuccarello and Wolski with the helpers.  The Rangers would dominate the rest of the way, but the Flyers would hang on.

FINAL: Flyers 3, New York Rangers 2

Shots were 36-27 Rangers (29-17 for the final two periods)

Flyers were 0 for 3 on the PP, Rangers went 0 for 4 with the man advantage
