Updates: Flyers Third in ESPN.com’s Power Rankings

ESPN.com released another week’s worth of power rankings on the NHL portion of their site today, and the folks in Bristol put the Flyers down as the third best team in the National Hockey League at this early juncture of the season.

Jody Shelley and the Flyers are tops in the East according to ESPN

Ahead of the Orange and Black are the St. Louis Blues (#1 overall, 9-1-2) and the Los Angeles Kings (#2 overall, 10-3-0).  The Washington Capitals (5th overall) join the Flyers as the only two Eastern Conference teams in the top five, with the Flyers being the top-ranked Eastern Conference team at 3rd overall.  The Orange and Black made a significant jump from last week’s rankings, which saw the Flyers just barely clinging on to the tenth spot.  Here’s ESPN.com’s reasoning as to why the Flyers made a seven spot step forward this week:

“The Flyers saw their six-game winning streak come to an end in overtime against Washington on Sunday but are getting contributions from throughout the lineup. Sergei Bobrovsky (Bob, or Bobo the Goalie, as we like to call him) appears to be the real deal with eight victories (tied for the league lead).”

Comments?  Post ’em below.  First in the East sounds alright to me.
